Language-Oriented Instructions

SPAN 3050 Intermediate SPAN Conversation / Composition

  • The course focused heavily on improving conversational fluency in the Spanish language as well as developing grammar and traditional writing abilities. The class covered a variety of compositional styles including persuasive writing, informative, creative, and investigative pieces. This was my first Spanish class as a freshman and presented a significant hurdle, texts from the 15th century all the way to 21st century abstract poetry all posed daunting challenges.

SPAN 3070 intermediate SPAN Grammar / Composition

  • In this course a heavy focus was placed on the grammar and technical syntax of the Spanish language. Throughout the course we learned more in depth the various sentence constructions as well as complex compound verb conjugations and other advanced grammar. Through this course I gained more knowledge in grammar than I had ever received before, in both English and Spanish. Due to public school budgets I received bare bones grammar education, which means I have learned most of my advanced English grammar in Spanish first.

SPAN 4110 Advanced Spanish Conversation & Composition

  • In this course, administered abroad in Argentina, we focused on refining our Spanish abilities through constant discussion, reading, and writing of a variety of styles. The variety of material covered in the class can not be understated, we examined Don Quijote with the same care and importance as the lyrics of a popular Reggaeton song. The entire time we developed the crucial abilities to not only understand the language but to synthesize complex ideas from multiple sources and express those complex ideas concisely.

Culture and Literature Courses

SPAN 4050 Int Trade Film & Lit

  • Examined film and literature from a diverse array of authors across the spanish speaking world. The class focuses on the economic and commercial forces that created the backdrop for the art and how they are interacted with and perceived by the people. This class is by and large my favorite I have ever taken at Clemson. I was able

SPAN 4010 New Spanish Fiction

SPAN 3080 The Hispanic World: Latin America

  • This course focused on the history, literature, and culture of the Hispanic world in Latin America. Beginning in pre-Columbian time with ancient cultures such as the Aztecs all the way to modern times with the Cold war and the new left and right throughout the continent.

Business Courses

SPAN 3160 Spanish for International Business I

  • This class served as an introduction for not only the specific vocabulary involved in the Spanish business world but also the cultural differences that existed in that world. A class project had us all create country specific businesses, presenting them to the class in order to not only share the vocab and business knowledge we had learned but also of the particular culture and customs of each country.

SPAN 4160 Spanish for International Buisiness II

  • This class provided an even more in- depth analysis of the Spanish business world and its functions. This included an extensive and country-specific vocabulary list as well as every class having discussions on a piece of news in the Spanish business world.

MGT 4230 International Business Management

  • This course covered traditional management ideas however with a larger focus placed on situations of international firms or those hiring workers from other cultures. The course discussed many examples of successful and unsuccessful management within international corporations in order to gain better understanding of the real life complications that can arise.

MKT 4270 International Marketing

  • This course focused on how products are developed and marketed around the world, whether they be identical worldwide or region specific. A majority of the course was focused on doing real market research for a chosen product in a set of specific countries, through compiling hundreds of data points we were able to determine the most apt market for our product.

MKT 4450 Macro Marketing

  • This course looked at marketing on a broad scale, in order to view how marketing and promotion of products can impact economies and societies as a whole. Through this the class explored in what way marketers have used this to their advantage as well as some of the potential ethical or moral issues inherent.

B.S. in Economics

ECON 4040 Comparative Economic Systems

  • This class, through a Neo-Institutional focus, examined the differences present today in between societies and attempted to provide concrete reasons as to why some countries are rich while others are poor. Although an immensely broad question, the course used the neo-institutional methodology to explain these differences. The main focus of the course was examining the integral parts of institutions and how they differed and impacted society as a whole.

ECON 4050 Intro to Econometric

  • This course challenged students to use statistics and calculus in order to derive many of the functions used in economics down to their cores. This class did not just teach you what supply and demand were, it asked you to find that out for yourself. This class included a weekly lab where we would have to ‘program’ using statistics software of which I have become competent. The class also focused on how to apply statistics within an economic framework, how to not just get an average for income distribution, but what that average means and potentially how it was skewed.

ECON 3020 Money and Banking

  • In this course the banking and monetary systems were reviewed in depth, touching on everything from the Federal Reserve system all the way to new Crypto Currencies like Bitcoin. Monetary and fiscal policy were also discussed in the class, we examined both the situations that drove these policies into practice as well as the consequences of them.

ECON 3600 Public Choice

  • This class examined politics through an economic lens of scarcity and rationality. By assuming all political actors are both rational and operating in a scarce environment the class was able to examine many political phenomena and explain them rationally. Examples include why many Americans do not turn out to vote, or why Presidents often start wars when the economy is bad and they’re hoping for reelection.

ECON 3100 International Economics

  • This class examined the international markets and interactions through micro and macro economics. Not only considering how comparative advantage took root in the real world, but also seeing how macroeconomic forces shaped and determined those advantages. The class covered a wide variety of countries; not just Europe or South America but also Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Sub-saharan Africa, and even the Baltic States; just to name a few examples.

ECON 4120 International Micro

  • In this class we focused on the international markets and trades between them exclusively through a micro economic view. This included an in-depth examination of the costs and benefits posed to each country by not just what they would trade but also by the decision to trade itself. A large part of the class was also spent covering the inherent prisoner's dilemma that exists in international cooperation due to asymmetrical information, and how resolving these problems may or may not lead to improved efficiencies in markets.

Big Paper

Voter Turnout Rates in the US: A historical and comparative analysis.

Un informe sobre la tasa bajo de presencia para eleciones en los estados unidos.

This paper is an economic research assignment I completed as a final for my class, comparative economic systems. This is undoubtedly the work of which I am most proud in my academic history. I read dozens of papers, conducted detailed analysis and research, and then was able to produce a well-written and insightful economic analysis paper. I would highly recommend you read it, especially given it is the only item in English! But more than that it contains facts and figures which we as Americans are aware of yet which we fail to act upon and change.
